  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and finely diced (about 2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough by mixing warmed milk with yeast and sugar; let it foam.
  2. Combine with melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, salt, and flour to form a shaggy dough. Knead until smooth.
  3. Allow the dough to rise in a greased bowl until doubled in size.
  4. For the filling, mix diced apples with sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle; spread softened butter and sprinkle the apple mixture.
  6. Roll tightly into a log; cut into 12 equal pieces.
  7. Place the rolls in a greased baking pan and let rise again until puffy.
  8. Bake at 375°F for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Prepare the frosting while baking by combining cream cheese and butter; mix in powdered sugar and milk.
