Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef, 80/20 lean
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, peeled and diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, freshly ground, to taste
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion, carrots, and celery; cook until softened (about 8-10 minutes).
  2. Stir in minced garlic; cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned (8-10 minutes) and drain excess fat.
  4. Mix in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, red wine, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes. Season with salt and black pepper.
  5. Bring to a simmer; reduce heat to low, cover, and let cook for 30 minutes to 2 hours for richer flavor.
  6. Approximately 15 minutes before serving, cook spaghetti according to package instructions in boiling salted water until al dente; drain well.
  7. Serve spaghetti topped with Bolognese sauce and garnish with shredded Parmesan cheese.
